Description
MEPSCONDID uniquely identifies conditions across MEPS panels. MEPSCONDID is created for 1996-2017 by combining PANELX, DUPERSIDX, and CONDNUM. MEPSCONDID is created for 2018 forward by combining DUPERSIDX, "0", and CONDNUM. IPUMS MEPS staff create MEPSCONDID to provide a single, universal linking key for MEPS conditions.
Beginning in 2018, AHRQ modified the identifiers DUID and DUPERSIDX (which combines DUIDX with PIDX) on the original MEPS data files to append information about PANELX to the first two columns. AHRQ also reduced CONDNUM from 4 digits to 3 digits beginning in 2018.
MEPSCONDID is on the condition record (see RECTYPE for more details on the different record types in IPUMS MEPS). Variables offered on the condition record through IPUMS MEPS are derived from the Medical Conditions file provided by AHRQ. MEPSCONDID is a 14-character string variable.

- 1996-2017: All current conditions.
- 2018-2021: All current conditions that link to an event or prescribed medicine record during the calendar year.
