Description
For all persons given the Diabetes Care Survey (DCS) and have been told they have diabetes, DIACHLYRS reports the approximate number of years it has been since a doctor or other health professional checked the respondent's blood cholesterol.
Beginning in 2008, MEPS changed the structure of the question about blood cholesterol on the DCS. Instead of asking for the approximate number of years it has been since a doctor or other health professional checked the respondent's blood cholesterol, MEPS asked for the specific years the respondent had their blood cholesterol checked. For the full list of variables pertaining to when the respondent had their blood cholesterol checked, available from 2008 forward, please see DIACHLNV.
DIACHLYRS is one of a set of variables comprising the DCS, a supplemental, self-administered pencil-and-paper survey about how respondents treat their diabetes. For related variables and more information, please see DIACONF.
