Description
For all persons given the Diabetes Care Survey (DCS) and have been told they have diabetes, DIACHLNV reports whether the respondent has never had their blood cholesterol checked. If the respondent answers "yes," the respondent is indicating that they have never had their blood cholesterol checked.
Prior to 2008, information about the length of time since a respondent last had their blood cholesterol checked was recorded in DIACHLYRS, which reports the approximate number of years it has been since a doctor or other health professional checked the respondent's blood cholesterol. Beginning in 2008, MEPS changed the structure of the question about when the respondent had their blood cholesterol checked. DIACHLNV and the following variables contain information about the length of time since the respondent last had their blood cholesterol checked:
- DIACHLNXYR: respondent had their blood cholesterol checked in the subsequent calendar year
- DIACHLCALYR: respondent had their blood cholesterol checked in the current calendar year
- DIACHLPVYR: respondent had their blood cholesterol checked in the previous year
- DIACHLBFPVYR: respondent had their blood cholesterol checked before the previous year
DIACHLNV is one of a set of variables comprising the DCS, a supplemental, self-administered pencil-and-paper survey about how respondents treat their diabetes. For related variables and more information, please see DIACONF.
