PROBDAD
Child has problem getting along with dad

Description

For children ages 5 to 17, PROBDAD reports how much of a problem the child has getting along with their father on a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 is "No problem" and 5 is "A very big problem." Users may want to score PROBDAD with the complete Columbia Impairment Scale; see below.

Beginning in 2018 PROBDAD is fielded every other year and will only be collected in odd years. See our user note for more details on this and other changes that occurred in 2018.

IPUMS MEPS reports the universe for each variable based on a thorough review of the original MEPS documentation. Investigating the data may reveal cases that do not meet the stated universe. Users are encouraged to validate universes for their analyses.

PROBDAD is part of the Columbia Impairment Scale (CIS), which is collected on the Child Preventive Health Supplement. See PROBMOM for more information on the CIS and LESSHLTHY for more information on the Child Preventive Health Supplement.
