Description

For emergency room, inpatient hospitalizations, and outpatient events (EVENTYPE), EVEXPSRCFAC is a set of expenditure variables indicating direct payments for health care expenditures to facilities by source of payment during the current calendar year. By adding EVEXPSRCFAC to your data cart, you are in effect adding twelve event expenditure variables. These variables include:

• EVEXPSELFFAC: Direct health care payments made by self/family, facility expenditures

• EVEXPMCFAC: Direct health care payments made by Medicare, facility expenditures

• EVEXPMAFAC: Direct health care payments made by Medicaid, facility expenditures

• EVEXPPRFAC: Direct health care payments made by private insurance, facility expenditures

• EVEXPVAFAC: Direct health care payments made by the Veterans' Administration, facility expenditures

• EVEXPTRIFAC: Direct health care payments made by TRICARE, facility expenditures

• EVEXPOFFAC: Direct health care payments made by other Federal sources, facility expenditures

• EVEXPOLFAC: Direct health care payments made by other State and local sources, facility expenditures

• EVEXPWCFAC: Direct health care payments made by Worker's Compensation, facility expenditures

• EVEXPOPRFAC: Direct health care payments from other private source, facility expenditures

• EVEXPOPUFAC: Direct health care payments from other public source, facility expenditures

• EVEXPOSFAC: Direct health care payments made by other unclassified sources, facility expenditures

EVEXPSRCFAC is on the event record (see RECTYPE for more details on the different record types in IPUMS MEPS). Variables offered on the event record through IPUMS MEPS are derived from the dental visits, other medical expenses, hospital inpatient stays, emergency room visits, outpatient visits, office-based medical provider visits, and home health event files provided by AHRQ.
