Description

For emergency room, inpatient hospitalizations, and outpatient events (EVENTYPE), EVEXPSRCDR is a set of expenditure variables indicating direct payments for health care expenditures to separately billing doctors by source of payment during the current calendar year. By adding EVEXPSRCDR to your data cart, you are in effect adding twelve event expenditure variables. These variables include:

• EVEXPSELFDR: Direct health care payments made by self/family, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPMCDR: Direct health care payments made by Medicare, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPMADR: Direct health care payments made by Medicaid, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPPRDR: Direct health care payments made by private insurance, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPVADR: Direct health care payments made by the Veterans' Administration, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPTRIDR: Direct health care payments made by TRICARE, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPOFDR: Direct health care payments made by other Federal sources, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPOLDR: Direct health care payments made by other State and local sources, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPWCDR: Direct health care payments made by Worker's Compensation, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPOPRDR: Direct health care payments from other private source, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPOPUDR: Direct health care payments from other public source, doctor expenditures

• EVEXPOSDR: Direct health care payments made by other unclassified sources, doctor expenditures

EVEXPSRCDR is on the event record (see RECTYPE for more details on the different record types in IPUMS MEPS). Variables offered on the event record through IPUMS MEPS are derived from the dental visits, other medical expenses, hospital inpatient stays, emergency room visits, outpatient visits, office-based medical provider visits, and home health event files provided by AHRQ.
