Respondent learned how to treat their diabetes from a doctor within their primary care practice

Description

For all persons given the Diabetes Care Survey (DCS), have been told they have diabetes, and have indicated that they have learned how to take care of their diabetes in the last 12 months, DIALRNPCP indicates whether the respondent has learned to take care of their diabetes by talking to a doctor/health professional within their primary care practice.

DIALRNPCP is one of a set of variables comprising the DCS, a supplemental, self-administered pencil-and-paper survey about how respondents treat their diabetes. For related variables and more information, please see DIACONF.

Comparability

This variable is completely comparable across time.

Universe

  • 2008-2021: All persons ages 18+ who reported a diabetes diagnosis in the priority conditions section of the MEPS survey (DIABETICEV), were given the Diabetes Care Survey (DCS), reported in the DCS that they had been told by a doctor or other health professional they have diabetes or sugar diabetes (DCSDIABDX), and indicated they have learned how to take care of their diabetes in the last 12 months.
