DIAFTBFPVYR
Respondent had their feet checked before the previous year

Description

For all persons given the Diabetes Care Survey (DCS) and have been told they have diabetes, DIAFTBFPVYR reports whether a doctor or other health professional checked the respondent's feet for any sores or irritations before the previous calendar year. For more information about how the structure of MEPS data collection impacts the collection of DIAFTBFPVYR, please see the Diabetes Care Survey user note.

Prior to 2008, information about the number of times a respondent has had their feet checked was recorded in DIAFTEXAMYR, which reports the number of times the respondent had their feet checked in the current calendar year. Beginning in 2008, MEPS changed the structure of the question about when the respondent had their feet checked for sores or irritations. For the full list of variables pertaining to when the respondent had their feet checked, please see DIAFTCKNV.

DIAFTBFPVYR is one of a set of variables comprising the DCS, a supplemental, self-administered pencil-and-paper survey about how respondents treat their diabetes. For related variables and more information, please see DIACONF.
