Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTRSTR indicates if the visit included restorative services: fillings, inlays, crowns or caps. Responses recorded in DENTRSTR are unedited; an edited version of DENTRSTR is available in DENTRSTRX. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality advises analysts to use the revised versions of the dental visit variables in their analyses but also makes these unedited versions available. DENTRSTR was introduced in 2017; in previous years, information about whether the visit included fillings, inlays, crowns or caps was offered in the variables DENTFLNG, DENTINLAY, and DENTCRWNS, respectively.

DENTRSTR is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
