Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTFLNG indicates if the visit included fillings. Responses recorded in DENTFLNG are unedited; an edited version of DENTFLNG is available in DENTFLNGX. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality advises analysts to use the revised versions of the dental visit variables in their analyses but also makes these unedited versions available. Beginning in 2017, information about whether the visit included individual restorative services such as fillings, inlays, crowns or caps was combined with into a single variable, DENTRSTR.

DENTFLNG is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
