Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTRCLVIS indicates if the visit included periodontal recall (periodic or regular). Responses recorded in DENTRCLVIS are unedited; an edited version of DENTRCLVIS is available in DENTRCLVISX. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality advises analysts to use the revised versions of the dental visit variables in their analyses but also makes these unedited versions available. Beginning in 2017, information about whether the visit included dental cleaning, prophylaxis, or polishing (DENTCLN) was combined with information about whether the visit included periodontal recall in the variable DENTCLNRCL.

DENTRCLVIS is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
