Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTCRWNS indicates if the visit included crowns or caps. Responses recorded in DENTCRWNS are unedited; an edited version of DENTCRWNS is available in DENTCRWNSX. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality advises analysts to use the revised versions of the dental visit variables in their analyses but also makes these unedited versions available. Beginning in 2017, information about whether the visit included fillings, inlays, crowns or caps was combined into a single variable (DENTRSTR).

DENCRWNS is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
