Description
For all persons who were in scope and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV or ASTHMARD) and reported they ever used preventative asthma medication (ASTHPREV), ASTHPRENOW reports if the person currently uses this medication daily or almost daily.
Collection frequency and timing for ASTHPRENOW changes over time. This variable was collected annually in 2003-2006, 2018, 2019, and 2022 forward. In other years, this question was fielded more than once per year and those responses are recorded in the round-level variable ASTHPRENOWRD.

Comparability
The meaning of this variable is comparable over time, but the timing of when the survey question was fielded changes. From 2003-2006, ASTHPRENOW was asked during round 3 for panels in relative year 1 and round 5 for panels in relative year 2. From 2018-2019 and 2022 forward, it was asked during round 1 for panels in relative year 1 and round 3 for panels in relative year 2.
Universe
- 2003-2006: Persons who are in scope in round 5 of panel in relative year 2 or round 3 of panel in relative year 1 and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMARD) and have ever used preventative daily asthma medications (ASTHPREV).
- 2018; 2019; 2022: Persons who are in scope in round 3 of panel in relative year 2 or round 1 of panel in relative year 1 and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV) and have ever used preventative daily asthma medications (ASTHPREV).
