Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTCLNRCL if the visit included cleaning, prophylaxis, polishing, or periodontal recall (periodic or regular). Responses recorded in DENTCLNRCL are unedited; an edited version of DENTCLNRCL is available in DENTCLNRCLX. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality advises analysts to use the revised versions of the dental visit variables in their analyses but also makes these unedited versions available. DENTCLNRCLX was introduced in 2017; in previous years, information about whether the visit included cleaning, prophylaxis, or polishing was included in the variable DENTCLN and information about whether the visit included periodontal recall was included in the variable DENTRCLVIS.

DENTCLNRCL is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
