SDOHWT
Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) weight

Description

SDOHWT is the person-level weight for the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) supplement. This weight should be used when conducting cross-sectional, person-level analyses that include SDOH variables. SDOHWT adjusts for non-response and weights to the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population. Only persons who were eligible for the SDOH supplement (see SDOHELIG) have a positive value for SDOHWT. For more information about the development of this weight, please see section 3.10 Weights and Response Rates for the Social Determinants of Health Survey in the 2021 Full Year Consolidated Data File document.

The Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) supplement was fielded via the 2021 MEPS-HC Social and Health Experiences (SHE) self-administered questionnaire. The SHE questionnaire was the first MEPS-HC questionnaire to be fielded using paper and web modes. Please see SATISFIED for more information on the SDOH supplement, including a complete list of variables fielded on the 2021 SHE.

Users should review the documentation for extracted variables--most notably the "Weights" section toward the top of each variable description--to ascertain which weight is the appropriate choice for a given survey year.

Codes

SDOHWT is a 13-digit numeric variable with 6 implied decimal places. That is, a value of 1234567891234 should be interpreted as 1234567.891234. The command files delivered with IPUMS extracts automatically divide SDOHWT by 1,000,000, so no further adjustment is needed.
