LMTBEND
Difficulty bending down or stooping

Description

For all current and institutionalized persons aged 13 and older who indicated they had a functional limitation (LMTPHYS), LMTBEND indicates how difficult it is for the person to bend down or stoop from a standing position to pick up an object from the floor or tie a shoe. Respondents were asked to choose 'no difficulty,' 'some difficulty,' 'a lot of difficulty,' or 'completely unable to do it.'

Collection frequency and timing for LMTBEND changed over time. This question was fielded annually from 2017-2019 and 2022 forward. In other years, it was fielded more than once per year and those responses are recorded in the round-level variable LMTBENDRD.

LMTBEND is one of a series of variables about limitations and disability available in IPUMS MEPS. A complete list of these variables can be found in the description for ANYLMT.
