Description

HIVA indicates whether, for at least one day of the current calendar year, the person had Veteran's Administration health insurance coverage. This variable was constructed by AHRQ staff based on the values of the corresponding 12 month-by-month other hospital/physician managed health care coverage variables (VAJA-VADE).

The VAMM variables are provided only to assist in editing and should not be used to make separate insurance estimates for these types of insurance categories.

Other military health coverage under TRICARE or CHAMP-VA is reported in HICHAMPANY.
