Description

For all current conditions associated with a medical event or prescribed medicine during the year, and for all current conditions before 2018, CONDRN reports the round in which the condition was first reported.

According to the Survey Description, for a small number of cases respondents did not report conditions that began in an earlier round until a later round of data collection. Prior to 2001 these cases were not edited. For 2001 forward these cases are edited to reconcile the round in which a condition began and the round in which the condition was first reported.

IPUMS MEPS reports the universe for each variable based on a thorough review of the original MEPS documentation. Investigating the data may reveal cases that do not meet the stated universe. Users are encouraged to validate universes for their analyses.

Variables offered on the condition record through IPUMS MEPS are derived from the Medical Conditions file provided by AHRQ. Comparability

In 2001 and later years, AHRQ edited records to reconcile the round in which a condition began and the round in which the condition was first reported. Prior to 2001 no editing was performed. There are no other comparability issues.
