Description

For all current or institutionalized persons who have ever been diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV), ASTHMASTILRD indicates if they still had asthma at the time of the interview. Respondents who answered yes were then asked follow-up questions about their use of medications such as inhalers (ASTHPINQUICKRD), preventative medicines (ASTHPREVRD), and peak flow meters (ASTHPEAKUSRD).

Collection frequency and timing for ASTHMASTILRD change over time. From 2007-2016 this question was asked in rounds 1 and 3 for panels in relative year 1 and rounds 3 and 5 for panels in relative year 2. In 2020 and 2021 this variable was also collected multiple times across the panels extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2003-2006, 2017-2019, and 2022 forward, this question was only asked once per year and those responses are recorded in the annual-level variable ASTHMASTIL.

Comparability

This variable is completely comparable from 2007-2016.

In 2020 and 2021 the timing of the enumeration varies depending on the extended panels. Data for 2020 includes responses from panel 23 round 7, panel 24 rounds 3 and 5, and panel 25 rounds 1 and 3. Data for 2021 includes responses from panel 23 round 7, panel 24 rounds 5 and 7, panel 25 round 3, and panel 26 rounds 1 and 3.
