Description
For all current or institutionalized persons who have ever been diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV or ASTHMARD), ASTHMASTIL indicates if they still had asthma at the time of the interview. Respondents who answered yes were then asked follow-up questions about their use of medications such as inhalers (ASTHPINQUICKRD), preventative medicines (ASTHPREVRD), and peak flow meters (ASTHPEAKUSRD).
Collection frequency and timing for ASTHMASTIL change over time. This variable was collected annually from 2003-2006, 2017-2019, and 2022 forward. In other years, this question was fielded more than once per year and those responses are recorded in the round-level variable ASTHMASTILRD.

Comparability
The meaning of this variable is comparable over time, but the timing of when the survey question was fielded changes. From 2003-2006, ASTHMASTIL was asked during round 3 for panels in relative year 1 and round 5 for panels in relative year 2. From 2017-2019 and 2022 forward, it was asked during round 1 for panels in relative year 1 and round 3 for panels in relative year 2.
