Used more than 3 cans prescription inhaler, past 3 months

Description

For all persons who were in scope and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV or ASTHMARD) and used a quick relief prescription inhaler for asthma in the last 3 months (ASTHPINQUICK), ASTHCANGT3 reports if the person used more than three quick relief prescription inhaler canisters for their asthma in the past 3 months.

Collection frequency and timing for ASTHCANGT3 changes over time. This variable was collected annually in 2003-2006, 2018, 2019, and 2022 forward. In other years, this question was fielded more than once per year and those responses are recorded in the round-level variable ASTHCANGT3RD.

Comparability

The meaning of this variable is comparable over time, but the timing of when the survey question was fielded changes. From 2003-2006, ASTHCANGT3 was asked during round 3 for panels in relative year 1 and round 5 for panels in relative year 2. From 2018-2019 and 2022 forward, it was asked during round 1 for panels in relative year 1 and round 3 for panels in relative year 2.

Universe

  • 2003-2006: Persons who are in scope in round 5 of panel in relative year 2 or round 3 of panel in relative year 1 and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMARD) and used a quick relief prescription inhaler for asthma in the last 3 months (ASTHPINQUICKRD).
  • 2018; 2019; 2022: Persons who are in scope in round 3 of panel in relative year 2 or round 1 of panel in relative year 1 and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV) and used a quick relief prescription inhaler for asthma in the last 3 months (ASTHPINQUICK).
