Description
For all persons who were in scope and were ever diagnosed with asthma (ASTHMAEV or ASTHMARD), ASTHPINQUICK reports if the person used a quick relief prescription inhaler for their asthma in the past 3 months. Respondents were asked whether they had used the kind of prescription inhaler "that you breathe in through your mouth" that gives quick relief from asthma symptoms. Persons who answered "Yes" were asked additional questions about asthma medication and peak flow meters.
Collection frequency and timing for ASTHPINQUICK changes over time. This variable was collected annually in 2003-2006, 2018, 2019, and 2022 forward. In other years, this question was fielded more than once per year and those responses are recorded in the round-level variable ASTHPINQUICKRD.
ASTHPINQUICK is one of several asthma-related questions included in the Priority Conditions Enumeration (PE) section. For a complete list of these variables, please see the variable description for ASTHMAEV.
