Description
For persons who have served on active duty in U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard in the past, but not currently (ARMFEV), ARMFPHEART indicates whether the person has received a Purple Heart award.
The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the president to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after 5 April 1917, with the U.S. military.
This variable is part of the Veteran Self-Administered Questionnaire (VSAQ), which was fielded in 2018 and 2019 and collected information on veterans' health conditions and health care services.
