For all persons aged 16 and older who received food stamps during the calendar year (FOODSTYN), FOODSTVAL reports the total monthly dollar value of received benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the state's SNAP name, or from food stamps during the calendar year.

Comparability
The survey question associated with FOODSTYN originally asked if anyone in the family purchased or received food stamps during the calendar year. Beginning in 2005, the question asks only about receiving food stamps. In 2010, the question asks instead about getting benefits from SNAP, the name of a state-specific SNAP program, or food stamps. Other than these changes, there are no comparability issues.
