Description
For children ages 5 to 17, PROBACTVTY reports how much of a problem the child has with getting involved in activities like sports or hobbies on a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 is "No problem" and 5 is "A very big problem." Users may want to score PROBACTVTY with the complete Columbia Impairment Scale; see below.
Beginning in 2018 PROBACTVTY is fielded every other year and will only be collected in odd years. See our user note for more details on this and other changes that occurred in 2018.
IPUMS MEPS reports the universe for each variable based on a thorough review of the original MEPS documentation. Investigating the data may reveal cases that do not meet the stated universe. Users are encouraged to validate universes for their analyses.
PROBACTVTY is part of the Columbia Impairment Scale (CIS), which is collected on the Child Preventive Health Supplement. See PROBMOM for more information on the CIS and LESSHLTHY for more information on the Child Preventive Health Supplement.
