Difficulty making an appointment with usual medical provider on short notice

Description

For current RU members in rounds 2 and 4 with usual source of care (USUALPL) whose provider does not work in hospital emergency room (TYPPLSICK) and who at least sometimes make an appointment (e.g., instead of walking in) to see their provider (USCPRAPPTWLK), USCPRDIFAPPT reports the level of difficulty individuals experience in making an appointment with their usual source of care provider on short notice. As an example of short notice, respondents are told "on short notice, for example, within one or two days?" As an example of short notice, respondents are told "on short notice, for example, within one or two days?" USCPRDIFAPPT is collected as part of the Access to Care supplement, which gathers information on usual source of care for all family members, characteristics of usual source of care health providers, and barriers family members have faced in obtaining needed health care.

Comparability

In all years other than 1996, the question is asked of persons in rounds two and four of data collection. No persons participated in round four of data collection in 1996, given the MEPS panel design. Otherwise, there are no comparability issues.

  • 1996: Current RU members in round 2 with usual source of care (USUALPL) whose provider does not work in hospital emergency room (TYPPLSICK) and somtimes make an appointment (rather than walking in) to see their provider (USCPRAPPTWLK), excluding members who are deceased or institutionalized.
  • 1999-2001: Current RU members in rounds 2 and 4 with usual source of care (USUALPL) whose provider does not work in hospital emergency room (TYPPLSICK) and somtimes make an appointment (rather than walking in) to see their provider (USCPRAPPTWLK), excluding members who are deceased or institutionalized.
