Description

For persons aged 16 and older who are in scope, SPOUSEPNUMRD reports the person identifier (PIDRD) of the person's spouse. AHRQ derived this variable from respondents' own reports during household rostering, and edited those reports to ensure consistency with each individual's age, sex, and other relationships in the household.

DENTOTH is a 3-digit numeric variable. Special codes include the following:

NIU: 000
No Spouse in House: 995
Unknown Marital Status: 999

Comparability

In 1996, SPOUSEPNUMRD only includes eligible persons in rounds 1 and 2 of data collection who are aged 16 and older; in subsequent years, SPOUSEPNUMRD is available for all persons aged 16 and older. Otherwise, this variable is completely comparable across time.
