Description

REFPRSRD indicates the reference person for the responding unit, in round. In general, the reference person is defined as the household member, age 16 of years or older, who owns or rents the home. If more than one person own or rents the home, the reference person is chosen from amongst them. If the respondent is unable to identify the home renter/owner, they are asked who is the head of the household, and that person is considered the reference person for the responding unit. For student responding units, the student is considered the reference person.

Comparability

In 1996, REFPRSRD only includes eligible persons in rounds 1 and 2 of data collection; in subsequent years, REFPRSRD is available for all inscope persons. Otherwise, this variable is completely comparable across time.
