Description

For all persons, OPTOTVIS captures the total number of outpatient medical provider visits during the year. These are encounters that took place primarily in outpatient medical providers settings and clinics, and include visits to both physician (OPPHVIS) and non-physician (OPNPHVIS) providers. For a small proportion of sample persons, the sum of the physician and non-physician visit variables is less than the total number of office-based visits because OPTOTVIS contains reported visits where the respondent did not know the type of provider.

OPTOTVIS is a 3-digit numeric variable.
