Comparability

In 1997-1999, MSARD is only included for persons in round 3 of relative year 1, and round 5 of relative year 2 of the panel. Other rounds have missing data for MSARD; IPUMS has classified these missing cases as NIU.

Prior to 2004, MSARD values were coded in compliance with the definition of MSAs based on the application of Office of Management and Budget standards to Census 1990 data. Subsequent years are updated based on the application of the 2000 Standards for Defining MSAs to Census Bureau population estimates for July 1, 2004 and July 1, 2005.
