For all persons, HPEXPSRC is a set of summary expenditure variables indicating the total amount paid for hospitalizations by source of payment during the current calendar year. By adding HPEXPSRC to your data cart, you are in effect adding fourteen annual summary hospitalization expenditure variables. These variables include:

• HPEXPSELF: Annual total direct health care payments made by self/family for hospitalizations

• HPEXPMC: Annual total of direct health care payments made by Medicare for hospitalizations

• HPEXPMA: Annual total of direct health care payments made by Medicaid for hospitalizations

• HPEXPPR: Annual total of direct health care payments made by private insurance for hospitalizations

• HPEXPVA: Annual total of direct health care payments made by the Veterans' Administration for hospitalizations

• HPEXPTRI: Annual total of direct health care payments made by TRICARE for hospitalizations

• HPEXPOF: Annual total of direct health care payments made by other Federal sources for hospitalizations

• HPEXPOL: Annual total of direct health care payments made by other State and local sources for hospitalizations

• HPEXPWC: Annual total of direct health care payments made by Worker's Compensation for hospitalizations

• HPEXPOPR: Annual total of direct health care payments from other private source for hospitalizations

• HPEXPOPU: Annual total of direct health care payments from other public source for hospitalizations

• HPEXPOS: Annual total of direct health care payments made by other unclassified sources for hospitalizations

• HPEXPPTR: Annual total of direct health care payments made by private insurance and TRICARE for hospitalizations

• HPEXPOTH: Annual total of direct health care payments made by all other sources for hospitalizations
