Dependents live in RU, outside of RU, or both in and outside of RU

Description

FILEDEPHERE indicates if dependents live inside, outside, or both inside and outside of the Responding Unit for persons listed as a dependent on a tax return, where the person claiming them as a dependent has already filed federal taxes for the current year (FILEDYN) or plans to file taxes for the current year (FILEWILL), and where the tax filer(s) in the household (not the dependent) has indicated that the tax filer(s) plan to claim at least one dependent on their Federal tax return (FILEDEPYN), and where the person has been flagged as a dependent on someone's Federal tax return (FILEISDEP), A student living at their college or school is an example of a person who may be flagged as a dependent, but may not be part of the Responding Unit.

 

This question was asked as part of a series of questions about tax filing. Before being asked these questions, respondents were told it might be useful to have out some of their family's financial records, such as a copy of the family's tax forms or materials used to complete the tax form, such as yearend bank statements, financial summaries, pay stubs, W-2 forms, and the like.

  • 1997-2016: Persons who live in a household with someone who has already filed (FILEDYN), or who will file (FILEWILL), a Federal income tax return for the current year, and who has indicated that they plan to claim at least one dependent on their Federal tax return (FILEDEPYN), and who have been flagged as a person who will be claimed as a dependent on someone in the household's Federal tax return (FILEISDEP).
