Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTSPCLST indicates if the person saw a dental specialist, such as an endodontist or periodontist, during their visit. DENTSPCLST was introduced in 2017; in earlier years, separate variables capture whether the person saw a dental surgeon (DENTSURG), an orthodontist (DENTORTH), an endodontist (DENTENDO), or a periodontist (DENTPRDNT).

DENTSPCLST is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
