Description

For all dental visits (EVENTYPE = 5), DENTEXTSRG indicates if the visit included extraction, having a tooth pulled, or other oral surgery. Responses recorded in DENTEXTSRG are unedited; an edited version of DENTEXTSRG is available in DENTEXTSRGX. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality advises analysts to use the revised versions of the dental visit variables in their analyses but also makes these unedited versions available.
DENTEXTSRG was introduced in 2017; in previous years, information about whether the visit included extraction or a pulled tooth (DENTEXTRCT) or an oral surgery (DENTORLSRG) were offered as two separate variables.

DENTEXTSRG is one of a set of dental visit variables reporting the type of dental provider seen, the dental services received, and the total expenditures overall and by payment source associated with each dental visit.
