Description

For married persons aged 16+ whose spouse is present in the household, SPOUSEPNUM reports the person number (PID) of the person's spouse. AHRQ derived this variable from respondents' own reports during household rostering, and edited those reports to ensure consistency with each individual's age, sex, and other relationships in the household.

SPOUSEPNUM must be used with the corresponding person number (PID). Researchers should use PID with (DUID) to uniquely identify persons within dwelling units.
