Description
For all persons, COVERTYPE reports the persons' health insurance coverage type recoded into a hierarchy. COVERTYPE includes three mutually exclusive categories and persons with more than one type of health insurance coverage were assigned to the first appropriate category in the following hierarchy:
- Private, including persons who had any private insurance coverage during the calendar year, including TRICARE/CHAMPVA.
- Public only, including persons who only had public coverage during the calendar year.
- Uninsured, including persons who were uninsured for the entire calendar year.
